Golden State Warriors: Upcoming NBA Draft dates to keep in mind
By Tony Pesta
The league has finally buckled down and set a specific date for the NBA Draft. Let’s break down some important dates for the Golden State Warriors.
This year has been a difficult one for sports fans. It’s difficult to keep up with all of the changes to schedules so let’s break down a few important dates the Golden State Warriors should be prepared for.
September 21 – Pre-Draft Process
Our first date is coming up soon and it marks the beginning of the pre-draft process for the upcoming prospects. 85 of the top prospects will undergo medical exams and testing while also filming a 45-minute “Pro Day Video.” The prospects will answer interview questions and perform in on-court drills. These videos will then be sent to teams like the Warriors.
These virtual interactions will likely serve as the closest thing to a traditional NBA Draft Combine that the league will be able to orchestrate. However, Shams Charania did state that in late October – teams will have the opportunity for in-person meetings. Though, the players will currently not be able to work out during these times.
November 18 – NBA Draft
After originally being slotted for October, the 2020 NBA Draft will officially take place on November 18. This date was locked in by Adrian Wojnarowski and will leave more time than expected for teams to conduct analysis on prospects before making a final decision.
This also gives more time for the Warriors to search the market for potential trades. But, I’d assume they will hold onto the pick unless a ‘too good to pass up’ offer is made to them.
Late November – Free Agency begins (TBA)
There is no confirmation on when the NBA’s free agency period will begin but we have to assume it will be shortly after the draft. This means late November is likely the time period to watch out for.
Christmas – NBA season returns (TBA)
There are many factors holding the next NBA season from starting but many are hopeful that we will get basketball back by Christmas. Seeing as how the NCAA will open their season in late November, we have to hope the NBA will be able to do the same after allowing enough time for each team to conduct training camp.
