The Golden State Warriors will add to their team this offseason, and it could mean late-season addition Mychael Mulder has to go.

Being brought in after the All-Star break, Mychael Mulder got his shot at the big leagues with the Golden State Warriors. While he performed well, he may still be the odd man out as the Dubs will inevitably look to bring in big-name talent this offseason.

On September 16, 2019, the Heat signed Mulder to an Exhibit 10 contract. They waived him within a month.

That didn’t kill his dream of playing consistently at the highest level though, and the Warriors were willing to give him a new chance after dealing away several players at the 2020 trade deadline. Mulder signed a multi-year contract with the Warriors after impressive.

The former Kentucky Wildcat who grew up in Canada averaged 11.0 points per game for Golden State, shooting a mere 38.8% from the field and 30.8% from deep. Mulder appeared in seven games, starting three of them.

He clearly left an impression on Golden State, one reason he was signed through the next two seasons.

Given that the Warriors prioritize adding a backup point guard, have Ky Bowman on the roster, and have two players behind Klay Thompson that need minutes, Mulder’s partially guaranteed contract may be coming to an end sooner rather than later.

If Mulder is on the roster at the start of next season, he’s guaranteed $200,000 according to The San Francisco Chronicle’s Connor Letourneau. He also reported that all of Mulder’s 2021-2022 season will be non-guaranteed.

Mulder played well in his time with the Warriors, but the 6-foot-3 guard won’t win any minutes over Damion Lee or Jordan Poole at the two-guard position. He also likely won’t be chosen over Bowman, Stephen Curry, or another veteran option at point guard.

If cut, Mulder would become an ideal two-way possibility for Golden State.
