Eric Gordon would be perfect addition for Golden State Warriors
The Houston Rockets may be in firesale mode to mold to their new head coach. If available, the Warriors must target Eric Gordon.
The Golden State Warriors have multiple ways they can improve their roster this offseason.
One such avenue for improvement will be their $17.2 million trade exception.
On top of that, they’ll have the No. 2 overall pick to couple with it to bring in a star. The 6-foot-4, 31-year-old shooting guard would be the perfect player to add with the exception, set to make $16.9 million next season.
The Warriors would have to be ok with spending that exception first as the financial times around the league will be tough in the next few years.
That said, if they are willing to fork over the penny, Houston’s owner will likely rid himself of Gordon’s contract. As for Gordon, he averaged 14.4 points per game in his 12th NBA season. He was the main force for Houston off the bench.
After a collapse in the Western Conference Semifinals to LeBron’s Lakers, the Rockets saw their head coach leave. Mike D’Antoni had the entire roster crafted for his style, and finding players new homes could be what a new coach does as the team is loaded with solid wings.
For Gordon, he’s a proven sniper, something Golden State will desire. Just a few seasons ago, Gordon shot 45% from downtown.
On their second unit that is lacking leadership, Gordon coming in being that presence, having scored double figures every season he’s been in the league and over 20 points a few times as well, could be crucial.
The Warriors will have to be certain they could play Klay Thompson at the three if they bring in Gordon because, if Gordon’s succeeding, late-game small-ball lineups could include the Rocket star.
Thomspon, Gordon, Curry, Green and Andrew Wiggins lining the floor would provide elite spacing. That’s a death lineup, and one any opponent should fear.
Gordon may not be the best addition, but he is one of several players Golden State should be wanting the team to target this offseason.
