The Rockets may look to rebuild their roster, and if they put Robert Covington on the trading block, the Golden State Warriors should be paying top dollar.

The Golden State Warriors need to find a way to add two-way forward Robert Covington.

That said, the Houston Rockets were disappointing in their Western Conference matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers, one that would send the Rockets home from Orlando. Mike D’Antoni then left as well as his stint with the team ended without a championship.

The Rockets may go through an entire rebuild with scoring champion James Harden still as the clear centerpiece. However, it may not be a forward-heavy lineup that depends little on any type of center.

If that type of coach is brought in, they’ll instantly see a load of talent at the three and four. PJ Tucker, Jeff Green, Danuel House and many others will be needing minutes. Covington, who is on a team-friendly contract, could be the odd man out.

A solid outside shooter and one of the league’s best perimeter forward, Covington should be on a shortlist of trade candidates for the Warriors. It’s unlikely that he’s traded though as Covington brings so much to a team on both sides of the court.

The 29-year-old 6-foot-7 forward is a defensive mastermind. With a 7-foot-2 wingspan, Covington has the physical ability to be disruptive defensively. That type of energy is what would make him a quintessential addition.

Then you get into his three-point shooting, and it makes his fit even better. Covington, who was with the Sixers then went to the Wolves and is now with the Rockets, has two years left on his contract.

Having averaged over two threes per game since his rookie season, Covington has turned into one of the best 3-and-D players the NBA has to offer. He’s worthy of the team’s high-value first-round pick. Covington would make them arguably a better team than even Joel Embiid.
