It’s been a long time since Klay Thompson suited up for the Golden State Warriors but he has officially entered minicamp.

Klay Thompson has cemented his spot in NBA history by becoming one of the most pivotal members of the Golden State Warriors‘ dynasty. His ability to match the greatest 3-point shooter of all-time on offense while also being an elite perimeter defender has made Thompson an irreplaceable talent for the Dubs.

This is why the franchise felt his absence so greatly last season. Recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals, Thompson missed all 65 games for the Warriors as the team fell to a league-worst 15-50 record.

As the league frantically worked to find a solution for the delete-eight teams to still get some practice together while the other teams competed in the bubble, the Warriors simply wondered if Thompson would be available to play at any capacity this year. Thankfully, everything has come together perfectly and Thompson is now present at the Warriors’ minicamp.

Camp will last until October 6 as Thompson looks to get his feet back underneath him. Both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green will be sitting out for personal reasons, but Thompson has a great opportunity to get some practice in with the younger members of the roster. Most of which, he hasn’t played a single minute with.

Anthony Slater of The Athletic (subscription required) reported that Thompson didn’t look fully in shape on his first day of camp – so Steve Kerr elected to hold off on full 5-on-5 scrimmages. However, Kerr expects Thompson to be ready to compete soon.

This will be a major first step back towards erasing the pain of last season. For Golden State, this marks the official return of Thompson. Soon, training camp will be announced and the team can work on adding Curry/Green into the mix as well. Before we know it, the 2020-21 season will be underway as the Dubs search for redemption.
