LaMelo Ball views his fit with Warriors differently than father LaVar

The Golden State Warriors could very well be LaMelo Ball’s first NBA home, and while LaVar doesn’t like the fit, LaMelo has his own, different opinion.

Several weeks ago the Warriors were awarded the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

While it was a slight disappointment, Golden State should still be considered a winner of the lottery as they secured a top-three pick. They are in a much better spot than the Cavaliers who dropped all the way down to No. 5.

With their top selection, Golden State will likely consider LaMelo Ball.

Ball, who is considered the top prospect in the draft by some, will more likely fall past No. 1 as the Timberwolves have D’Angelo Russell and don’t need a young, up-and-coming point guard. The Wolves will likely target Georgia’s Anthony Edwards.

As for the Warriors, two-time MVP Stephen Curry is a bit older and could help usher in a new era in Golden State’s backcourt. However, going to the Bay Area may not be what father LaVar has in mind for his son. LaMelo may not completely agree with that though.

“My old man, he’s his own man. He has his opinions, I have mine,” Ball told reporters in a Zoom NBA draft combine conference call according to USA Today’s Scott Gleeson.

“I feel I could play on any team and do good anywhere I go, so anything that happens, I’m positive. Anywhere is a great fit. I mean, it’s the NBA. You put me with good players, I feel like it’s even gonna be better,” he said on Monday per Gleeson.

These comments were in response to the comments made by his father and the patriarch of the Ball family, LaVar, on the “Road Trippin” podcast. LaVar made it clear that he doesn’t feel Golden State would be the best destination for his son.

Don’t worry, LaVar, most people agree with you. However, why they agree is different. The Warriors have no need for LaMelo. He’s an inefficiency, 6-foot-7 point guard that is a high-risk prospect.

Ball, instead of playing in college, went to the Australian Leauge, averaging 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in 12 games. His efficiency is the biggest concern as Ball shot 25% from three and just 37.5% from the field.
