Maintain future draft capital

The Golden State Warriors have the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The fact is that between now and late November, when the draft has been rescheduled for, the Warriors likely won’t pull off a trade for the Giannis Antetokounmpo, but they could pull one off after the draft.

The Warriors wouldn’t want to force the Bucks into a player they would rather not have. That’s why, in order to get an edge, they should trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers or New York Knicks to get another 2021 first-round pick.

The 2021 draft is also noticeably better than the one coming in a few months.

That means if the Knicks or Cavs, two teams that may be high on LaMelo Ball, a prospect the Warriors could get with the second-overall pick, would be willing to part ways with their draft pick in the next draft, it would worthwhile for the Warriors to make that deal.

Especially if Giannis is their ultimate target, the Warriors would want to add another 2021 first-round pick, dealing their high-value pick in the upcoming draft.
