Would have minimal financial impact

The mid-level exception is going to have around a $6 million value. Using it wouldn’t the Dubs long-term financial issues that will eventually arise. The team has Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins all on max-value deals.

Knowing that, the Warriors will have little cap space to work with this offseason. The bulk of potential additions will be looking at a minimum-value contract.

However, the MLE gives them the option to bring in a rotational player to bulk the team’s depth. It could also be used to fill the backup point guard role, something the team is looking to prioritize this offseason.

Baynes made $5.4 million this season, signing a two-year contract in the 2019 offseason.

After his performances this season, he may easily be able to double that, but having been to the playoffs six times, he may want to sign with a team that at least has the possibility of getting him back to the NBA Finals.

The Warriors would do that and give him a little bump from what he made this past season.
