Dennis Smith Jr.
Coming off the worst season of his career, Smith Jr. averaged just 5.5 points per game with the Knicks. His rookie season with the Mavericks, Smith Jr. was notching around 15.5 points per game, so he clearly has the potential to be a solid scorer.
On the Warriors’ second unit, he could be the offense’s leader while Jordan Poole and Eric Paschall also chip in to help keep the team’s leads. Sadly, even on the Knicks, his minutes were cut. He played under 16 minutes per game, starting just three and playing in just 34.
The problem with Smith Jr. is his efficiency. He shot under 35 percent from the field last season, and he just wasn’t great for New York.
Shooting under 30 percent from deep, Smith is under contract for around $5.7 million. He’s worthy of a few picks, but it’s tough to make the argument that he’s significantly better than current backup point guard Ky Bowman.
It may be worth a shot to look into him as that backup point guard option, but at the same time, the franchise may want to stay away and let him figure out his shooting issues with another organization.
