Point guard

The Golden State Warriors are going to prioritize adding a backup point guard. For the sole reason that Stephen Curry is the team’s starting point guard, it seems doubtful they’ll use their $17.2 million trade exception to bring in a backup point guard.

Some have theorized that if the front office believes Ricky Rubio is the perfect fit they may bring him in.

However, it’s assumed that the Warriors would rather use that massive exception on a player like Aaron Gordon at a position they need high-level talent to start. Jeff Teague or D.J. Augustin feel like the two mid-level exception players the Warriors would be most inclined to sign.

The Warriors obviously have Curry, and they are perfectly content with him. He’s easily the safest player on the franchise in terms of not being dealt. He’s missed too many games in his career for them to feel safe with just him leading the charge.

The team does have Ky Bowman, but they have clearly noted that they want another point guard, showing they may desire a player a bit more experienced. That said, adding a backup point guard feels ideal for the Golden State Warriors.
