Winning a championship could require a third superstar

The Warriors Big 3 isn’t the same as it used to be. Draymond Green hasn’t put up All-Star level numbers in almost half a decade. While Stephen Curry proved he’s still elite during the 2019 NBA Finals, the Western Conference has gotten quite a bit better since the Warriors reigned over it.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis, two top-five NBA players, are with the championship-winning Lakers while Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are also in Los Angeles.

Having been swept in the first round of the 2020 playoffs despite averaging 30 points per game, Embiid is a star that the Sixers didn’t build well around.

They added power forward Al Horford on a four-year contract, shrinking the court and forcing the team into playing the two in the frontcourt often. With Ben Simmons out as well, they never stood a chance in the postseason.

With Joel Embiid’s 2019-2020 being a season in which his play declined, he should be available as Doc Rivers may look to build the roster his own way. While both first-round picks and other assets may be available, Golden State should do their best to keep that coveted 2021 first.
