The NBA is looking to start the 2020-21 season as soon as Christmas. What does this mean for the Golden State Warriors?
It’s been over 200 days since the Golden State Warriors played an NBA basketball game but next season could be coming soon. According to multiple reports, the league is working on a tentative schedule for next year that could begin on Christmas day.
The league understands how important it is to begin next season as soon as possible. Not only do they need to recover from a financial standpoint, but it’s vital they bring the 2020-21 season to a proper conclusion without impacting the following season as well. This string of shortened campaigns must end this year.
Consequently, the current offseason will have to be kicked into overdrive in order to start on Christmas. This means the Warriors and every other team will be rushed to make their free agency decisions in under a month before jumping straight into the fire.
This could actually benefit the Warriors as teams like the Los Angeles Lakers won’t have much time to recover from the grueling schedule of the Orlando Bubble Meanwhile, the Dubs have had months to rest and prepare for a new season.
On the other hand, every bubble team had a chance to build chemistry while the Warriors were stuck at home. This rush into play will hinder the Dubs’ ability to put all of the pieces together properly.
This is heightened by the fact that the Warriors are dealing with plenty of fresh faces on the roster. Andrew Wiggins, Eric Paschall and Marquese Chriss will all have to adjust to playing with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Not to mention, this upcoming rookie class will have little chance to participate in training camp before facing off against NBA level competition.
All of these factors, combined with a shortened schedule, will add a bit of randomness to how next season shakes out. This might help the Warriors as they enter the season as a darkhorse contender looking to stun the competition.
