League sources have ‘no idea’ what Golden State Warriors will do

The Golden State Warriors are doing a great job of hiding their cards as no one around the league has an understanding of what they will do.

We are less than three weeks away from the 2020 NBA Draft and there is still no clear indication of what the Golden State Warriors plan to do with their pick. Contradictory reports have been swirling and some media members have straight-up admitted they have no idea what the Dubs are going to do this offseason.

On the Bill Simmons Podcast, Kevin O’Connor talked about the Warriors and how their true intentions remain a mystery to everyone he’s spoken to.

"“Do you have any real read on the Warriors? Because there’s so much misinformation out there… everyone I talked to in the league doesn’t know what they’re going to do. Talk to different people – you hear different things.”"

This matches up with the frenzy of reports we have been covering here at BMH. Prospects such as Obi Toppin, James Wiseman, Deni Avdija and Anthony Edwards have rotated as favorites in the draft while rumors continue to swap back and forth as to whether or not the Warriors will look to trade the pick.

In reality, nobody truly knows what the franchise is looking to do. And that is for a very good reason. The Warriors are playing this smart – not allowing anyone to predict their next move – and maintain leverage in negotiations.

For example, the Charlotte Hornets recently expressed interest in Wiseman. Soon after, a report broke that the Warriors are doing the same. Is this a play to put pressure on the Hornets and create a trade proposal? We just don’t know.

I still think that it’s likely we see the Warriors pull off some sort of move on draft night. Their $17 million trade exception is too valuable NOT to use in combination with this pick. They can use this opportunity to flip the No. 2 pick for a more readily available asset while holding onto next year’s first round pick from Minnesota to continue building for the future.
