If the Golden State Warriors want to keep any hope of a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade alive, the team needs to trade their No. 2 overall pick.

The Golden State Warriors are one of the favorites to land Giannis Antetokounmpo if he were to be traded.

All indications are that if Giannis is to leave it’ll be in free agency as he’s no disgruntled or at odds with the management. But, there’s no telling how long his patience will last. The only thing Milwaukee has going for them is the ability to offer Giannis a supermax contract.

The difference between that and a normal max-value deal could be enough to keep him in Milwaukee for the long-term future. A two-time MVP, Giannis would be worth the entire collection of assets if he’d commit to Golden State after his contract expires.

After averaging 29.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game along with being crowned as the Defensive Player of the Year, Giannis is the full package on both sides of the court. He’s just yet to find the team success that Golden State has had in the past half a decade.

Much of if they’ll have the assets to bring in Giannis may lean on if they can use their No. 2 overall pick. Assuming they don’t get a deal done before the November 18 draft, the Warriors would have to trade the pick for future draft capital to keep hope alive.

Let’s dive into why that might be the case.
