To keep any Giannis Antetokounmpo trade alive, Warriors must trade No. 2

Adding a player would instantly reduce the value to Milwaukee

The Golden State Warriors, if they go into the 2020 NBA Draft with their pick, will likely take James Wiseman or Deni Avdija. If LaMelo Ball or Anthony Edwards is there, they’ll likely give them a look as well.

It won’t really matter who the Warriors may take with the pick. If that player isn’t the top prospect that Milwaukee may crave, the pick would lose value as compared to one in the future. Then, the dream of Giannis is the Bay Area may go down the drain.

It’s the same concept as taking a new car off the lot. It’s not that the Warriors’ recently-added prospect would lose value or no longer be a star, but he may not have value in the eyes of Milwaukee.

The Warriors likely won’t hold their breath on a Giannis deal.

It’s more possible that a player like Kelly Oubre Jr. or even Joel Embiid becomes available in the next few weeks. A two-time MVP just isn’t going to be shopped, and he most certainly won’t be going anywhere for the best package Golden State could offer if they use their pick.

Despite the waning value of the prospect between the two team cultures, there’s another reason to trade the pick for more draft capital.
