Barring nothing happening with Andrew Wiggins during the draft, what does his role look like on the Golden State Warriors?

As of right now, Andrew Wiggins will be starting the 2021 season on the Golden State Warriors. He will be playing alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, something he didn’t get to do very much at all last season.

Stephen Curry played five games last season due to a broken wrist, while Klay missed the whole season with a torn ACL. Getting both of these players back will be huge for this team, as they hope to compete for a championship once again.

What is Wiggins’ role next season on Warriors?

I think it’s safe to say that Andrew Wiggins may be the third scoring option next season. With a healthy Steph and Klay, Wiggins will not be the focal point of the offense like he was at times last season.

So what kind of role can we expect to see Andrew Wiggins play? The best thing that Wiggins could do this season, is come in and play a “Harrison Barnes” type of role.

Harrison Barnes averaged around 10 points per game in his four seasons with the Warriors. He was a very reliable scorer with the second unit, while also being able to hit the spot-up shots with the starters. In 2015, he shot 40 percent from three.

Barnes did play a chunk of his minutes at the power forward position. That is something I do not think we will see from Wiggins, as he is better off on the wing.

Wiggins can take his role to a whole other level. In his 12 games he played with Golden State, Wiggins scored 19 points per game. Andrew has been a 20 points per game scorer for most of his career.

Andrew Wiggins may not be what most people thought he would be, but he can still be a great starting role player for a championship team. He may never live up to his contract, but he can show his worth by doing what is needed of him to win a championship for the Warriors.

If the Warriors still have Wiggins after the draft, fans could be looking at a remake of the 2015 championship roster.
