The Golden State Warriors are hoping to land a strike with their NBA Draft pick – but Zach Lowe says their chances of trading for a star are slim.

Unless they have a chance at trading for an All-Star caliber player, the Golden State Warriors won’t be too interested in trading the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Sadly, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the Dubs haven’t had much luck when offering the pick.

Lowe reported that despite the Warriors shopping the pick around – no team has been intrigued enough to offer an All-Star in return.

"“Both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors have explored trading their picks for All-NBA-level stars, sources say, but no such deal appears (for now) likely to materialize. The Wizards have shown no interest in trading Beal for either pick, sources say. Ditto for Phoenix with Devin Booker and Philadelphia with Ben Simmons. Again: If Beal forces Washington’s hand, a package centered on the No. 1 pick is nothing to sneeze at. Players one tier down are probably not worth a top-two pick.”"

It’s no secret that the current NBA Draft is projected to be weaker than normal. No prospect is standing too high above the rest and the value of having a top-three pick is reduced as a result. This is likely the main reason no All-Star caliber players are becoming available.

This isn’t encouraging news for fans who were hoping the Warriors would be able to stack the deck again next season by adding a star player on draft night. Instead, the Dubs will have to live up to their ‘Strength in Numbers’ slogan next year to compete for a title.

Thankfully, the Warriors can still look to swap picks with a team further in the order to acquire some more assets. Furthermore, their mid-level exception opens the door to signing a quality role player. All of these factors combined could help push the Warriors over their competition.
