Golden State Warriors: Ranking top 5 guards in NBA Draft
By Tony Pesta
3. Tyrese Haliburton
The Golden State Warriors don’t need to swing for the fences. A safe prospect like Tyrese Haliburton could be the way to go for this team with championship aspirations.
Pros
Haliburton is going to do everything you ask him to. The Warriors won’t have to worry about managing egos or forcing Haliburton into their system. He is a high-IQ player that will play to his strengths and fill the Sixth Man role beautifully.
As a sophomore for Iowa State, Haliburton posted averages of 15.2 points and 6.2 assists on 50.4 percent shooting from the floor and 41.9 percent accuracy from the 3-point line. This type of efficiency and sound decision making will bode well for his longevity in the league.
Cons
Haliburton doesn’t project to be a game-changing prospect. He doesn’t have star potential and likely won’t amount to anything more than a reliable sixth man. For most teams picking in the top three, this would be a turn-off.
In contrast, the Warriors might be interested in a prospect as safe as Haliburton. If the Dubs are able to trust Haliburton to lead the second unit as a court general, the team will happily select him with the No. 2 pick.
