There have been a number of conflicting reports recently, but James Wiseman is the most likely NBA Draft pick for the Golden State Warriors.

As we approach NBA Draft night, rumors are spiraling out of control. It’s officially smokescreen season and the Golden State Warriors are putting on a masterclass on how to hide their true intentions. Still, it feels pretty obvious that James Wiseman is at the top of their big board.

Every day we see a new report that the Warriors are eyeing a different prospect. Do they want a win-now prospect like Obi Toppin and Tyrese Haliburton? Or will they target a player with higher star potential such as LaMelo Ball or Anthony Edwards? Of course, we can’t forget the possibility of them taking a chance on Deni Avdija who is an intriguing work in progress.

It’s easy to convince yourself why the Warriors would target any one of those prospects. In reality, due to the fact that this is a weaker draft class than normal, it’s possible the Dubs really do go after one of those names. However, if Wiseman is on the board at No. 2, he will be going to the Warriors.

As Draymond Green has said all year long, basketball is a common-sense sport. For the Warriors, who are lacking a big-man presence, why wouldn’t they use this pick to acquire the projected best center in the draft?

Wiseman has the easiest path to success with Golden State. If he can rebound the ball, block shots and convert open dunks – he will be just fine with the Dubs. And, if he is able to exceed those basic expectations (there’s a good chance he does) then he can prolong the Warriors dynasty into the next decade.

We can talk all day about how Ball or Edwards might blossom into the face of the franchise. Or, the Warriors can simply take the easy path to another title in front of them by not only drafting one of the most talented players in the class – but a player who fills their biggest need.
