Onyeka Okongwu. player. 170. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. C. USC. 3

The Charlotte Hornets are reportedly high on James Wiseman. If they are unable to trade up to select him, they will settle for the next best center – which might not be a bad thing as Onyeka Okongwu is an All-NBA defender in the making.

Okongwu is a bit shorter than Wiseman but makes up for it with his versatility and freakish athleticism. There is a good chance Okongwu can replicate the type of defensive impact that Bam Adebayo has created in Miami – and that is exactly what makes him appealing to the Hornets.

Charlotte hasn’t been a great defensive team in years and much of that is due to their lack of rim protection. Okongwu can fix this issue immediately while also having the potential to be effective on the perimeter.

As for the offensive, Okongwu will spend most of his time finishing easy looks at the rim. He won’t initiate much on his own but in time he can improve on some of the playmaking skills he displayed at USC and be an all-around star in Charlotte.
