3. Build for the future

The Warriors managed to acquire Oubre without giving up any of their young assets. This is a strong indication that the franchise is dedicated not only to winning in the present – but building for the future as well.

The Andre Iguodala trade exception helped the Dubs absorb Oubre’s contract for the year without adding anyone to match salary. This is huge as Oubre now joins a young nucleus of James Wiseman, Eric Paschall, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins.

At 24 years of age, Oubre can be a core member of the Dubs transition into the new decade. He is a blooming star – coming off his most successful individual season. While he likely doesn’t become an All-Star, Oubre is a solid addition to the Warriors supporting cast.

Due to the recent injury of Klay Thompson, it’s more important than ever to keep the future in mind for Golden State. This is one reason why this deal was such a massive victory for the Warriors.
