The Golden State Warriors’ five-time All-Star guard Klay Thompson has ruptured his Achilles, ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski reported.
After not having Klay Thompson for a single game last season, the Golden State Warriors won’t see him on the court until the 2021-2022 season. Wow, just typing that feels numbing as Thompson has officially torn his Achilles.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the extent of his injury today. It was known that Thompson was going in for an MRI after having the injury occur yesterday. It’s brutal news for Dub Nation, a fanbase hoping to get back to their winning ways in 2021.
Thompson has been a staple of their dynasty, one that has won half of the NBA championships in the last six seasons. He’s been a crucial factor in all five Finals trips, averaging over 20 points per game the past five seasons that he’s played.
Thompson missed all of last season after tearing his ACL on the opposite leg which he tore his Achilles. Thompson rehabbed from that and was thought to be at 100 percent heading into the new season, one set to begin in just over a month.
The good news is exactly what Woj’s tweet says above — he’s expected to make a full recovery.
With the timetable as it is, Thompson may not be ready for the start of next season either, which is just a debilitating concept for Warriors fans after being able to watch Thompson at full strength for so long.
He’s truly one of the most polarizing players in the game and one that everyone loved.
It’ll be tough to not have Thompson on the court, but two-time MVP Stephen Curry will have Andrew Wiggins and No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman to help him potentially get this team back to the postseason.
It’s a sad day in the Bay Area.
