Golden State Warriors: 3 ways Klay Thompson’s injury will impact team
Dampen next few years
When and if Klay Thompson returns from this injury, assuming it keeps him out of all this upcoming season, it’s going to put a damper on the next few. Thompson likely won’t come back at 110 percent like he could have this season.
There was hope, especially from his father Mychael, that he’d be just as strong as he had been. It seems unreasonable to consider that he’ll even be close to the player he once was after two significant injuries on opposite legs.
The positive surrounding Thompson is that he was never quite dependent on his athleticism. Sure, Thompson was an elite defender because he could keep up with his opponent, and sure, he could get up and jam the ball.
But, his bread and butter was in his defensive instincts and ability to shoot from deep. Thompson is one of the best shooters in league history, and a few lower-leg injuries will hurt his leaping ability. But, it shouldn’t heart his shot.
Thompson will hopefully be back, but it’ll likely be a Klay that’s not quite 100 percent the player he used to be.
