The Golden State Warriors are preparing for another season in which expectations are high, and Kevon Looney is looking to be a huge part of their gameplan.

Against the Houston Rockets in the 2019 NBA playoffs, Kevon Looney made his presence felt. That’s why he was awarded a three-year contract that was above the minimum, a deal most Warriors are playing on.

The Dubs valued Looney more than any other team in the league. They gave him a deal that would solidify his time in the Bay Area. However, last season, when he was needed the most, Looney was consistently injured.

He was originally signed because of his ability to defend multiple positions. He was also incredible on the boards, helping bring back multiple possessions in oftentimes games that were separated by just points.

That said, Looney’s points per game were nearly cut in half last season, and it seems like no one is talking about his in the race for the starting center now.

The Warriors drafted James Wiseman with their No. 2 overall pick and saw former top-ten pick Marquese Chriss erupt with the team as well.

He’s not projected to play a huge factor but don’t tell him that. Looney is feeling great and has been putting in the hard work that it will take for him to get in the rotation and yet again prove why they gave him a $15 million contract.

"“I feel great. It’s the best I’ve felt in a long time. I’m able to compete and go hard and do extra work before and after, but no problems. I’m still doing the little things I’ve got to take care of my body right — a lot of stretching. I’m still doing the strength and rehab stuff to stay on top of things. I feel confident in my body and where I’m at right now. I’m really excited about this season,” Looney said Looney per Mercury News’ Wes Goldberg."

The Warriors need Looney to be great in order to elevate their franchise. His energy off the bench will be something this franchise craves, especially if the Warriors can’t get Wiseman to contribute like they hope he will.

That said, expect Looney to have a good season, something much different than he showed last year.
