James Wiseman, the Golden State Warriors No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has already been working on his three-point shooting.

While many thought the Golden State Warriors would trade their second-overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, they opted to keep it, and they decided to strengthen their frontcourt with it by adding the draft’s most coveted center, James Wiseman.

Wiseman is a 7-foot-1 center that played his collegiate ball at Memphis. However, due to issues over his eligibility, Wiseman only played three games. That was enough to show scouts his excellence.

A star with the Tigers for a few games, Wiseman averaged 19.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. What’s even more impressive is that he shot over 75 percent from the field. He didn’t connect on a single three though.

It’s sad the sample size is so small, but with the NCAA playing a major role in his headache, Wiseman opted to just move past college and prepare for the NBA. That didn’t knock his stock according to the Warriors, who used a high pick to bring him to the Bay Area.

Wiseman did attempt a three though, missing his only shot from deep. Just because he didn’t make that doesn’t mean an elite development staff and the proper amount of training can’t make him a capable shooter.

That’s apparently what he’s aiming for, already practicing threes.

Wiseman should know that being a competent shooter is everything.

Think about how much more dominant a player like Rudy Gobert would be if he could connect from deep. Wiseman has the chance to develop his skillset to be one of the next great big men in the NBA.

He’ll need a three-point shot to do that, and he’s working to get that in his arsenal. We’ll hope that, if he gets the okay from head coach Steve Kerr, he’ll be able to launch and connect on a few this season.
