Alen Smailagić

One of the Warriors’ two second-round picks from a year ago, Alen Smailagic has the potential to be a terrific stretch four, but he hasn’t shown too many flashes of that high upside yet this preseason.

Smiley, as he’s also known, played in 14 games last season and saw just under ten minutes of action per game. In that time, he averaged 4.2 points per game. He shot 50 percent from the field as well.

Well affiliated with the Warriors’ G-League affiliate, Smiley needs to put on a show this season at a position that the team is loaded at.

Eric Paschall, the other second-round pick from the 2019 draft, thrived with the Dubs last season, earning himself first-team All-Rookie honors.

With Kevon Looney, Marquese Chriss, Draymond Green, and others all potential competing for a handful of power forward minutes, Steve Kerr may opt to send Smailagic to a place he could get those developmental minutes.

That said, it’s unlikely but possible that Smiley has more value to other teams than with Golden State.
