3 Nets to watch as Golden State Warriors welcome Brooklyn for season opener
By Justin Lee
The Golden State Warriors are opening their season on Tuesday against the Brooklyn Nets. In a game with some familiar faces, these two teams should generate some entertainment.
The Brooklyn Nets were the story of last year’s offseason, as they signed two superstars. Last season, we only got to see one of them play for the Nets in Kyrie Irving. Kevin Durant, their other high paid star, was still recovering from the injury that he had in the 2019 NBA finals with the Warriors.
This Warriors team could struggle in their first game against a team that has a stacked roster. Not only do the Nets have the two players that everyone knows about, but they also have great role players.
Brooklyn has one of the best young shooting duos on their team and an excellent rim protector. Golden State will be without two of their superstars in Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, which could be something to keep in mind.
Klay Thompson did not play in the 2020 season due to a torn ACL from the 2019 Finals. When Thompson was nearing the end of his recovery, he would injury himself again.
On the day of the 2020 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors got word that Klay Thompson had been seriously injured during a workout, and it did not look good. He tore his Achilles and would be out for another full season yet again.
This hurt Warriors fans, as they were ready to see the backcourt that was once the best in the league. A combo that hadn’t been seen in over a year and was named by many as the “best shooting pair ever .”
To make up for Thompson’s absence, the Warriors went out and made moves this off-season. Bringing in Kelly Oubre and drafting James Wiseman. The two may not bring the bay area a championship, but they can make this team entertaining once again.
The Nets and Warriors matchup will also be entertaining, as Brooklyn has some key players to watch out for.
