Golden State Warriors shouldn’t overreact to opening night
By Justin Lee
The Golden State Warriors played their first game of the new 2020-2021 season against the Brooklyn Nets in Barclays Center. However, they could not get a win as the dynamic duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving explode for 20 each.
The Golden State Warriors are back and played their first game since March. However, they did not look all that great. In this game against the Nets, former Warrior Kevin Durant played his first game in 18 months.
The Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving duo look to be something special, as they both exploded for 20 points. The game was not pretty for Golden State, as they were down big early in the game.
It is safe to say that Durant looks of old, and Irving is still an impossible player to guard. Neither player had to play over 25 minutes in the matchup due to their big lead.
While the score was one-sided and not in the Warrior’s favor, fans should not overreact to this 26 point loss.
Why Warriors Fans Should Not Overreact To This Loss
Warriors fans are used to being spoiled, and rightfully so with the last half-decade. Going from a dynasty to the worst team in the NBA can be stressful for fans. Therefore, I can understand how fans would rush to get back to success.
However, this may take time. This is a very new team with tons of potential and lots of pieces. The Warriors now have Stephen Curry back, who played his first game since March and will most likely not get right back into the groove.
With these new pieces, there will need to be time to build the chemistry. Andrew Wiggins was on the Warriors last season but did not play many games at all with Curry. Oubre is a new addition to help replace the void of Klay Thompson. James Wiseman is a second overall pick in the past draft, who has not played a basketball game since last year.
Let us not forget about this team’s engine, in Draymond Green, who was out for this one. Even when Green comes back, the chemistry will take time. In a shortened off-season with the new additions, the Warriors battled against time as some of their new players also dealt with COVID problems.
There are so many things that will need to go right for this team to get going, and they could happen soon. However, fans should not overreact about a loss to the Nets, who may be contending this season.
