Rockets receive: James Wiseman, Klay Thompson, 2023 first-round pick

Warriors receive: James Harden

Sorry, guys. Trading Klay Thompson in a package for James Harden would salvage this season, but it would mortgage not only the future but the fanbase. However, if the Rockets are going to get value and continue to contend well into the future, he’s a player they should look to add.

Look at John Wall in the preseason and Kevin Durant in the Nets’ season opener; it’s possible to come back from one or multiple injuries. Add in a top pick from this past draft and a future first, and you have everything you should need if you’re Houston.

The Rockets should want to wait a few seasons to build a contending team anyway since the West is just so loaded. LeBron’s Lakers or Kawhi’s Clippers should both be considered better teams, and only with Harden would Golden State contend.

Harden and Curry, although Curry may be more of a pure shooter at that point and Harden more of a passer, may thrive with each other in the backcourt. The rest of the roster may fill out with Oubre Jr., Wiggins, and Draymond Green, all of which have a track record of success in the NBA.

If the Warriors can trust that those three can round out a contending roster, it’s worth the risk.
