Stephen Curry finally did Stephen Curry things. Curry went for 62 points on Sunday night, more than both Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined.

The Golden State Warriors lost their first of two straight games to the Portland Trail Blazers. Let’s just say Stephen Curry wasn’t going to let their two-game win streak be followed up by a two-game losing streak.

Curry went absolutely off. He did so with a mix of aggressive driving, smart playmaking and elite shooting. It was really Curry’s free throw shooting that helped elevate his scoring.

He took a career-high 19 free throws, making 18. But, that free throw shooting was set up well due to his ability to keep defenders close. One of the best shooters in the history of the game, Curry went 8-for-16 from downtown.

That said, he was given some help as well.

Wiggins, Oubre Jr., and Wiseman combined for 50 points, and the team put a total of five players in double figures. Although those three and Eric Paschall played well, it was the Steph show on Sunday night.

Damion Lee cooled Steph off after the game. Following that shower, Curry reiterated that, despite scoring 62, he hasn’t done anything differently. Curry was aggressive and continued to be aggressive until the final buzzer went off.

62 points are the most scored by a Warrior in the past 40 years. Too bad he’ll never eclipse the franchise record as Wilt Chamberlain put up his 100-point game as a member of the Philadelphia Warriors.

For now, we’ll live with Steph’s 62 and look forward to the team welcoming Sacramento into the Chase Center tomorrow night.

As for the win, in a 72-game season, it will be a huge factor. This was actually the team’s first win over a Western Conference team as well. To be fair, it was just their second game of the season against a team in the West.
