Could Klay Thompson make a return to the Golden State Warriors before the season ends? Well, if a suspension happens, the answer is yes.

We’ve been here before. While the NBA has no immediate plans to pause the current season – it feels increasingly likely a suspension of some sort is coming soon. For the Golden State Warriors, a potential delay on the season could open a path for Klay Thompson to return to the court.

The Warriors had no problem with the league shutting down back in March. They were dead last in league standings and didn’t have much to play for. An extended offseason allowed them to fully recover from a brutal five-year run and prepare for their next campaign.

Unfortunately, it all fell apart again once Thompson injured his Achilles. The Warriors are still looking competitive – but without their star shooting guard, it’s hard to see them winning a championship at the end of the season.

Unless… the season is suspended long enough for Thompson to make a full recovery. The injury he suffered reportedly takes four to sixth months to recover from – and he is expected to be back at 100 percent due to the nature of his injury.

With COVID running rampant and putting a damper on the current season, we could see a suspension sometime soon. The number of games being postponed is piling up and there seems to be no slowing down the spread.

All it would take is a two-month layoff to have Thompson comfortably back in the lineup by the time playoffs begin – assuming they finish the 72 game schedule. It’s been about a month since his initial injury, and roughly three months before the playoffs are scheduled to start. But, again, if a two-month suspension occurs, Thompson will have had six months to recover from his Achilles rupture before the postseason.

In this case, the Warriors would be a scary team to face. They already look capable of going toe-to-toe with any opponent on any given night. Throw a healthy Thompson into the mix and anything is possible for the NBA’s biggest underdog.
