There is no debate, the Golden State Warriors should absolutely pursue P.J. Tucker if they want to compete for a championship this season.

With a blockbuster deal sending James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets, the Houston Rockets are now in a rebuilding project. With a few expendable assets that can be flipped for more future talent, the Rockets could be interested in sending P.J. Tucker to the Golden State Warriors.

The Dubs have plenty of goodies to offer. Young names like Kelly Oubre, Jordan Poole, Eric Paschall and Kevon Looney could be tossed into a deal while future picks, including Minnesota’s 2021 First Round, could be used to put the Warriors over the top in negotiations.

While much of what the Dubs trade is dependant upon whether or not Tucker would re-sign with the team in the offseason for likely less than what he’s worth, the value of adding Tucker can’t be overstated. And, it’s possible he agrees to sign for a minimum contract as he has consistently taken pay cuts in the past.

Tucker is the definition of a 3-and-D player in today’s NBA. He understands his role as a knockdown sharpshooter in the corner, and man, I wouldn’t want to try scoring on this guy. Tucker is as tough as they come and with great strength and moderate athleticism, Tucker can guard just about any position.

Tucker brings versatility and experience that the Warriors don’t currently have on their roster aside from Draymond Green and Stephen Curry. Adding a player that is currently shooting above 50 percent from the 3-point line would feel like a miracle to a team that ranks 26th in catch-and-shoot efficiency.

The Warriors would be much better off with a veteran like Tucker that can fit their ideal system. Whatever the price may be, the Dubs should consider taking a chance on bringing Tucker to the Bay.
