Golden State Warriors’ issues: James Wiseman’s development

Is anybody surprised that the 19-year-old rookie who only played three collegiate games and missed an opportunity for summer league and various other training camps before the start of the season is having trouble early in his career? Didn’t think so.

Wiseman can’t be blamed for his inexperience. There’s only so much the young man can be expected to know at this point in his NBA life. With that being said, we can still acknowledge the growth he needs to make sometime soon.

The Warriors haven’t been able to keep Wiseman on the floor for extended minutes due to a few reasons. Firstly, he isn’t keeping up on the perimeter. He is getting burned by quicker opponents and even his strength as a rim protector is dumbed down by his lack of awareness on the help side.

Despite being an ideal lob-threat, Wiseman ranks in the 36th percentile as a pick-and-roll man and is shooting just 50.3 percent from the floor. There’s a reason Draymond Green is constantly coaching him on the sidelines and hopefully, the rook hits his stride soon.
