The 2021 NBA trade deadline is about 50 days out, and the Golden State Warriors, unlike last season, should be buyers, not sellers.
The Golden State Warriors will be a playoff-contending team this season, and that’s something not many people thought was going to be possible after five-time All-Star Klay Thompson went down with a second season-ending injury.
Led by Stephen Curry, the Warriors will have about a month and a half until the trade deadline, and while they’re still far over the cap, the team will have ways to improve their roster.
Given their reluctance to trade their No. 2 overall pick this past offseason, it should be assumed that the Minnesota Timberwolves’ top-three protected 2021 first-round pick is also off-limits which would then mean a star likely won’t be joining the Warriors.
However, as the Warriors proved this offseason, they’re dedicated to winning. After Thompson’s injury, they could’ve stopped then and not went out and added Kelly Oubre Jr., putting them even further into the league’s luxury tax penalty.
Golden State may look to be buyers as they’ve proven their dedication to winning. That said, let’s dive into three reasons the team could be buyers prior to the 2021 trade deadline.
