Though many haven’t been giving him his due credit in the MVP conversation, Stephen Curry continues to add insane games to his resume as the Golden State Warriors defeat the San Antonio Spurs in a 114-91 route.

Curry lit up the Spurs for 32 points in just 32 minutes. The game was pretty much decided by the fourth quarter due to Curry’s consistent onslaught. This came one night after the Spurs narrowly defeated Golden State in spite of Curry posting 32 points in that one too.

Stephen Curry is on an astronomical run and it has the Golden State Warriors feeling good about their playoff hopes.

Tuesday marked the 12th 30+ point game of the season for Curry, bumping up his season average to nearly matching his career-high of 30.1 which he set back in his unanimous MVP run. In the last five games, Curry has averaged 37.4 points on 32-of-64 (50 percent) shooting from the 3-point line. His last four games have looked like this:

Stephen Curry’s last four games

  • 32 Points (W)
  • 32 Points (L)
  • 57 Points (L)
  • 28 Points (W)
  • 38 Points (L)

Even with opposing teams making him the centerpiece of their gameplan every night, Curry is finding a way to put up some of the best numbers we’ve ever seen from him. This is a truly remarkable thing to accomplish with Andrew Wiggins being the team’s second-leading scorer at 17.5 points per game. It’s akin to the type of carrying that LeBron James was praised for so long – the only problem is Curry isn’t receiving nearly the same attention.

In the latest MVP races, ESPN has Curry ranked seventh while NBA.com has him… tied for ninth with Damian Lillard? Both lists have James himself at No. 1, which seems reasonable considering he’s having one of his most efficient seasons of all-time (the dude is shooting almost 40 percent from the 3-point line!) but how, in what world, is Curry’s value ranked on the same level of Lillard’s?

For reference, Curry is averaging more points, rebounds, steals and roughly the same amount of assists on better shooting splits than Lillard – with the same amount of wins and a much worse supporting cast. Not to mention, Curry dropped his career-high 62 points in a victory over Lillard and the Blazers earlier in the season. If that isn’t worthy of breaking NBA.com’s tie – then I don’t know what is.

Nonetheless, Curry is bound to get his respect at some point. The Warriors are entering the easier half of the schedule, giving them a chance to gain momentum heading into the home stretch. Even if it doesn’t happen then, Klay Thompson will be back next season, and it will get pretty hard to ignore the Dubs at that point.
