Golden State Warriors NBA Draft targets: Jalen Johnson

Jalen Johnson disappointed a lot of people when he elected to sit out the remainder of the NCAA season and commit for the NBA Draft. But, the 6’9″ forward is going to be a lottery pick regardless and the Golden State Warriors should absolutely be considering him.

Johnson has all of the versatile capabilities of a prototypical point forward. He can handle the ball and move in transition with ease. His long frame and muscular build help him bulldoze through smaller defenders and he’s too quick for bigger ones.

His time in Duke didn’t serve him well. Johnson posted an underwhelming 11.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists. Still, he had moments where he flashed potential, like when he recorded 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks in a win over Georgia Tech.

Johnson has room to improve as a shooter. He only attempted 18 3-pointers in Duke, though he did connect on eight of them (44.4 percent). Increasing his volume while maintaining efficiency should be a goal for him. As should learning how to routinely make plays for others.
