Draymond Green is already an all-time great passer, but his recent string of games with the Golden State Warriors has him in the conversation for the best playmaker in the entire league.

If you haven’t been keeping up with it, you might not realize Green has dished out more assists than anyone in the NBA over his last 10 games. He dished out a career-high 16 the other night, pushing his 10-game total to over 100 while he averages 12.3 per game since February 4.

Draymond Green is on a playmaking spree for the Golden State Warriors and he’s been the best passer in the NBA during this streak.

On the season, Green is averaging a career-high 8.3 assists. What’s more impressive is that during this recent run, he’s only committed 28 turnovers. This gives him an incredible assist/turnover ratio of 3.16, the 14th best mark in the NBA. He is the only frontcourt player in the top 15 for this category.

Green didn’t invent the point forward but he has mastered it. While we’ve seen players of his size display keen abilities to throw magical passes – few have been able to design plays on the spot and create openings for their teammates quite like Green.

Truthfully, LeBron James and Nikola Jokic are the only frontcourt players with an argument over Green in this department. Except, Green isn’t being double-teamed at any point in his games. Stars like James and Jokic have the benefit of using their scoring as a threat to free up teammates – Green doesn’t, he just has to be smarter than his opponents.

And, 99.9 percent of the time, Green is smarter than whoever is on the other side of the ball. He’s constantly barking out commands and directing teammates on the floor. We saw his adept ability to read and react in action against the Cleveland Cavaliers as he and Stephen Curry ran a beautiful reverse hand-off where Green set a screen for a 3-pointer.

Green doesn’t have the ball-handling of James Harden or Chris Paul but he does have an elite understanding of the game. He’s showing us this season that he’s more than just a glue guy for a team of superstars but an actual mastermind at orchestrating an offense. Whether he truly is the best playmaker or not – I hope you just appreciate the talent he’s been displaying.
