For the most part, the Golden State Warriors have handled business against lesser opponents, but their back-to-back losses tell a different story.

The Golden State Warriors weren’t projected to be as good as they are.

32-year-old Stephen Curry was expected to crumble without Klay Thompson, one reason the team wasn’t predicted to be in playoff-contention before the season, but instead, he’s stepped up and is now an All-Star starter.

Curry has been that good this season, averaging over 30 points per game for just the second time in his career. It’s been on his back that the team is currently sitting above .500. Curry is also averaging over four rebounds and four assists per game.

As for the Warriors, they’ve been able to maintain playoff position due to their ability to defeat opponents that just aren’t up to their level.

Whether it’s the Magic, Kings, or another team that currently isn’t sitting in the playoff race, the Dubs have been able to win, oftentimes with relative ease.

However, that hasn’t been the case over the last two games, and the team has slipped up, allowing others to close the gap between them and that No. 8 seed.

The first of two games was against the Orlando Magic, a game in which they allowed center Nikola Vucevic to dominate and put up a 30-point triple-double. Guard Evan Fournier also contributed 28 points.

With the lead heading into the fourth after being down double figures, the Warriors needed to pull that game out against an injured and beatable Magic team. After taking on Orlando down in Florida, the Warriors headed up the East Coast and played the Charlotte Hornets the next day.

Terry Rozier was in his bag against the Warriors.

He hit the game-winning shot after Draymond Green was tossed. With the lead in the fourth despite Stephen Curry behind a late scratch, the Warriors needed to pull this game out. Rozier put up 36 as the Hornets ended the game up two.

Combine both those games, and the Warriors record now sits at 16-15.

It could easily be 18-13, but sadly it’s not. The Warriors are currently in the eighth spot in the West, and with a ton of the season left, they should be worried about the Grizzlies and Mavericks in the two spots below them.

With another game in their road trip before heading back to California for a few tough games, the Warriors need to get back to eh team that dominates inferior opponents or they could be looking at missing the playoffs for a second straight season.
