Golden State Warriors’ trades: Giving up Andrew Wiggins

This first one hurts, but it’s one of the more likely outcomes of a deal for Kristaps Porzingis. Andrew Wiggins is the only expendable player on the Golden State Warriors’ roster that matches salary with Kristaps and that makes him the most logical player to include in a swap.

First, let’s talk about why losing Wiggins would hurt, and how this would be a massive win for the Mavericks. Wiggins is playing the best basketball of his career at only 25 years of age and could continue to bloom into an elite two-way threat, exactly what the Mavs are looking for on the perimeter.

Wiggins can space the floor and bolster the Mavs defense which currently ranks 25th in the entire league. It makes sense why the Mavericks would jump at this potential deal.

As for the Warriors, they’d have to feel pretty certain they can bring the best out of Porzingis in order to accept this trade. Porzingis is still only 25 himself and is a ‘unicorn’ of a player, standing at 7’3″ and possessing elite scoring ability.

In order to make this deal a bit more appealing, the Warriors would also receive a quality backup point guard in Trey Burke and a second-round NBA Draft pick that could prove to be valuable.

This deal isn’t the best one for Golden State, but it’s one the Mavericks will definitely be pushing for.
