While Stephen Curry did pour in 37 points, the contributions from the Golden State Warriors’ centers gave them a much-needed boost in production.

The Golden State Warriors have had just one game in February before last night in which they had a real center.

Even then, you can make the case that their first game in February which featured Kevon Looney shouldn’t count. While Looney has been playing center, James Wiseman is the team’s only traditional center.

Both Looney and Wiseman suited up for the Warriors in what was a very winnable game against the Knicks. While the Knicks have surpassed expectations this season, the Warriors are just a better team.

Coming off two losses in back-to-back games against the Hornets and Magic, the Warriors needed a big-time win, and it was their two centers that helped spark this team. In a down-to-the-wire game, Wiseman and Looney combined for 16 points.

While it may not seem like much, Wiseman’s 14 led the bench. Despite his -6 on the game, Wiseman kept the second unit from losing too much of the hard-earned lead. Wiseman was 6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.

For the starters, Looney has cemented himself as the better option.

Looney will never be a dominant scorer like Wiseman could transition into, but he is a solid rebounder and knows the defensive sets well. He plays with confidence in the offense and understands how the starters revolve around Curry.

Dropping 37, Curry was the main reason the Warriors were able to snap their losing streak. He’ll be the main reason the team is able to pull out the victory in most of their wins, but he can’t do it alone.

And, against the Knicks, it was the centers that ignited a new spark that some of the players that filled in for them just weren’t bringing. It was a great sight to see with most of the team back and healthy.

The Warriors may not be a Finals contending team quite yet, but they are among the best in the West.

They’ll command the attention of the teams at the top of the West, and with a potential addition using their disabled player exception on the horizon, the Warriors have a very good chance at improving their roster.

If they do, watch out because, with Wiseman and Looney both healthy, this team has a dynamic frontcourt once again.
