The Golden State Warriors self destruction shouldn’t be disheartening

The Golden State Warriors were absolutely blown out when they took their talent to Los Angeles, and this team has to keep in mind that it’s just one game.

The Dubs have a long road trip ahead of them, and they need to stay both together and prepared to get a few wins in the near future. After one home game following their long road trip out East, the Warriors were quickly forced to hit the road again.

This time, it was going down the road to Los Angeles.

Golden State has to go to Portland then to Phoenix and then to play the Clippers back in Los Angeles following their game against the Lakers.

That’s just a brutal stretch, and it gets even more difficult when you realize they come home just to take on the West’s best team, Utah, and the Lakers again. If the Warriors can go .500 in these next five games, they should be just fine.

That said, the team entered the half down more than 20 points, and they were on the verge of being down more than 30 at several points in the second quarter. It wasn’t the Lakers that lit them up, but rather that they just couldn’t get going offensively.

Even though the Lakers cremated the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night, this team must stay ready to keep their playoff position in the near future.

With Anthony Davis on the sideline, the Warriors could’ve defeated the Lakers for the second time this season, but with Los Angeles losing a handful of their last several games, they needed this victory as well.

The Warriors lost Draymond Green at half, but to be fair, the game was already over. While Stephen Curry did play the third, it clearly wasn’t with the same energy that he brings following halftime in most games.

Curry ended with 16 points and was 5-for-13 from the field. The Warriors as a team were 8-for-34 from deep. It was a tough night for a team that has consistently been solid on both ends of the court.

A top-five team in defensive rating, the Lakers putting up over 70 in the first half should be the most concerning part. The shots will eventually fall, but the inability to defend one of the top-tier offenses should be noted.

Golden State should bounce back against the short-handed Blazers. That is a game they’ll desperately need as Curry and Damian Lillard will square off on Wednesday night.
