We’re midway through the season and the Golden State Warriors have yet to make a significant push towards either competing for a top-seed or falling to the back of the NBA Draft Lottery. They are stuck as a mid-tier NBA team, something no one ever wants to be.

There is no use entering the playoffs as an eight-seed. Sure, it will allow younger players like James Wiseman, Kelly Oubre, Eric Paschall and Andrew Wiggins to get some experience under their belt – but how much could a four-game beatdown from a contender help the young guys that much in the long run? The Dubs would be better off missing the postseason and securing a first round NBA Draft Pick.

In a perfect world, the Warriors would gel together quick enough to be a dark horse candidate in the Western Conference. You know, the team that nobody wants to face in the first or even second round. However, the Warriors won’t reach this level unless they patch up some holes in their roster.

Finding a suitable backup point guard should be the Golden State Warriors’ main objective before the NBA’s deadlines.

The backup point guard spot has plagued the Dubs all year long. Brad Wanamaker has failed to lead the second unit at an effective rate and the team should be looking to replace him at some point. Whether it be at the deadline or in the offseason, the Warriors need a new backup guard.

Today, we will look at three ways they can address their need for a guard ahead of the two NBA deadlines. There are some interesting buyout candidates as well as trade assets the Dubs could consider.
