The Golden State Warriors, unless something goes drastically wrong over the next several months, will be a playoff-contending team. With Stephen Curry playing at an MVP level, the Dubs have destroyed preseason expectations.

That’s why many fans are hopeful that the team may go all in this season. Up against the salary cap, Golden State would have trade Andrew Wiggins in any trade that involves a high-value contract.

With the way Wiggins is playing and what it may take to bring in a Bradley Beal or a Zach LaVine-like talent, general manager Bob Myers may sit this trade deadline out.

That always felt like the most probable avenue for the franchise despite them being just a handful of pieces away from a championship-caliber team. Myers reiterated that sentiment to the media recently.

When speaking with the media, Myers didn’t give much hope that the Warriors would make a franchise-changing trade as the March 25 deadline inches closer.

"“I don’t think we want to think too short-term and give up something in the future just to make a little bit of a push now. As hard as that is to stay discipline, I think we would hope that anything that we would decide to do had legs beyond this year or had advantages beyond the rest of this season,” Myers told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Grant Liffmann and Dorell Wright according to Dalton Johnson."

The real pain this season came before the season even started.

When Klay Thompson tore his ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, everyone expected him to be back on the court by now. An Achilles injury has caused that much-anticipated return to be pushed back an entire season.

Until Thompson returns, this team won’t be at full strength.

Without his impact on the court, the Warriors just don’t have what it takes to compete with the Lakers or Clippers. While they’ve beaten both teams this season, in a seven-game series, it seems unlikely.

The Warriors didn’t give up on the season even after Thompson’s injury.

They seemingly vowed to stay competitive as the team went out and traded for Kelly Oubre Jr. They also brought in Kent Bazemore and Brad Wanamaker, two veterans. On top of that, they drafted James Wiseman to give them frontcourt depth.

It seems as though Golden State is going to stay competitive, but they’re not going to go all-in on this current roster.

With the Timberwolves’ 2021 pick in their arsenal, the Warriors have the assets to make a blockbuster trade, but as Myers noted, they seem a bit too disciplined to do make a rash move. That said, expect a quiet trade deadline for the Golden State Warriors.
