Warriors’ guard Jordan Poole arguably had the best game of his career with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green sidelined. The duo didn’t even make the trip to Phoenix after having a hectic last few weeks on both the East and West Coast.

Someone had to step up, and given that the two playmakers were out, it was Poole who answered the call. After taking some time in the G-League last season, Poole showed his development and thrived over the team’s last 15 games.

It seems the same can be said of Poole this season as he’s looking to use this solid performance to vault himself back into the rotation.

Following a short stint in the G-League bubble, second-year guard Jordan Poole is set to make an impact for the Golden State Warriors.

Against the Suns, Poole scored a game-high 26 points in 26 minutes. With the Suns having won the game by 22, Phoenix coasted the last few quarters which is why many of their players failed to individually dominate.

Initially, Poole wasn’t getting many minutes. On the season, he’s still averaging just 10.6 points per game. With the Warriors being a playoff-contending team, many younger players have seen their minutes slashed in 2021.

Poole should be trending upward after his stellar performance against Phoenix though. He’s still going to be battling Mychal Mulder and Damion Lee just for the few minutes behind Kelly Oubre Jr., but he’s proven that he can make plays, something the Dubs may critically need.

Prior to being sent to the G-League last season, Poole averaged 7.1 points per game and shot just over 25 percent from the field. After his few-week stint, he averaged 10.6 points per game and shot over 40 percent from the field and over 30 percent from deep.

It was a drastic improvement for Poole.

This season should be no different, except it’d be shocking to see the same proportionate increase.   In both seasons, Poole has averaged over 45 percent from the field and over 22 points per game while with the team’s G-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

He gets his confidence and then he returns. It’s a win-win situation as Poole should be re-joining the rotation with a chip on his shoulder. That’s exactly how the G-League should be used for these young, developing players.
