It’s been nearly two years since we saw Klay Thompson enter a game for the Golden State Warriors and drill catch-and-shoot 3-pointers. Thankfully, the three-time champion is finally eyeing his return.

Talking to reporters ahead of Sunday’s game, Thompson stated that the goal is to return by the start of next season. He’s been rehabbing an Achilles injury for roughly six months and is on pace for a full recovery.

Golden State Warriors fans can rest assured that Klay Thompson plans on being available to play on opening night of next season.

Thompson understands that this won’t be a matter of instant gratification. Returning the floor will be sweet – but it will come with restrictions and limitations he isn’t accustomed to playing with.

"“I’ll be honest with you guys, I don’t expect to come back and be balls to the wall, 38 minutes a night, guarding the best player, running around 100 screens. I’m going to get to that point. I guarantee that”ldne SVia San Francisco Chronicle"

Thompson’s encouragement comes from watching players like Kevin Durant and John Wall make complete comebacks and return to playing a high-level of basketball following their injuries. There’s plenty of reason to assume Klay will see similar success.

And, the Warriors can’t be excited enough. They’ve been struggling without Thompson’s consistent performances on both ends of the floor. There’s no question they will need him ‘balls to the wall’ once they embark on another playoff run – but it will require patience and perseverance.

Nonetheless, in the wake of such a challenging two-year stretch for the Warriors (and the world as a whole), it feels good to see the sun coming up on the horizon. Better days are coming and it won’t be long before the Splash Brothers are running alongside each other, terrorizing the league once again.
