The Detroit Pistons and power forward Blake Griffin reached an agreement on a buyout a few weeks ago. He was an unrestricted free agent and could sign anywhere he wanted to. A former star, Griffin chose the Brooklyn Nets but had the Warriors on his radar.

No one was shocked by his decision. The Nets have two former MVPs on their roster and then also have Kyrie Irving. Adding Griffin to go with James Harden, Kevin Durant and Irving gives the Nets an unfair surplus of talent.

The Golden State Warriors were in the mix for Blake Griffin, and he said that he “really liked” the Warriors prior to signing with the Nets.

On Pardon My Take, a popular podcast hosted by Barstool Sports’ personalities Big Cat and PFT Commenter, Blake Griffin said that he “really liked” Golden State. While he didn’t sign with the Warriors, it’s at least a good sign that Griffin gave a positive opinion of Golden State.

Big Cat initially asked if joining the Suns was an option for Griffin, who said it wasn’t. As you may know, Griffin’s former long-time teammate Chris Paul now plays for Phoenix. He then asked for the list of teams Griffin was thinking about being a part of.

Griffin went on to name the Celtics and Blazers as other teams that he liked before joining the Nets. All four destinations would’ve made sense for Griffin as each will give him a chance to make a true title run.

While the Nets could use Griffin, the Warriors certainly needed to add the former All-Star big.

To go along with playing some at center, Griffin could’ve bolstered the Warriors’ frontcourt, and given what happened to them in February as both Kevon Looney and James Wiseman missed the bulk of games, they could’ve used the frontcourt help.

The Warriors may look to trade for a big man but adding one that used to be among the best in the league would’ve been more ideal.

As for Griffin, with the Pistons, he averaged 12.3 points per game but was over 15 per game last season and over 24 per game the season before. Griffin still has a future in the league, and he can still be an asset for an elite team.

Griffin is set to make his Nets debut later today which should pain franchises like Boston and Golden State who know they missed out on a big opportunity as Griffin went a team that’s already the most talented in the NBA.
