If you’re wondering why the Golden State Warriors dealt both Marquese Chriss and Brad Wanamaker for nothing in return – it’s because they have their eyes on what could be a lucrative buyout market.

The NBA Trade Deadline has passed and the league was relatively quiet. A few notable deals happened such as Nikola Vucevic to Chicago and Victor Oladipo to Miami, but it was an underwhelming evening overall.

The Golden State Warriors have chosen to sit still at the NBA trade deadline and turn their attention to the buyout market.

As a result of most teams being idle, a couple of names went untraded. Players like Andre Drummond and LaMarcus Aldridge are already working towards buyout deals with their respective teams. These two are perhaps the most likely candidates to join the Dubs. Both veteran big men can contribute right away for Golden State and will be available for a low price.

Drummond, in particular, can anchor the Warriors’ efforts in the paint and help develop James Wiseman for the future. Drummond was averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds before being banished to Cleveland’s bench.

Otto Porter Jr. is another name that could be of interest to the Dubs. The 3-and-D wing is expected to discuss a buyout with the Orlando Magic and would be a welcomed presence on the Warriors’ bench.

Golden State seems to have made the right moves thus far. There was nothing of worth on the table for Kelly Oubre Jr. and holding onto their chips for the summer is sure to open more trade opportunities in the future. Furthermore, trading Wanamaker opens the door for even more minutes from Jordan Poole and Nico Mannion to close the year strong. For now, all the Dubs need to do is strike gold in the buyout market to round out the roster.
