Potential Warriors Trade Suggestion: Kelly Oubre Jr. to Boston

Here’s another Kelly Oubre Jr. we think the Warriors should’ve accepted if it was on the table. Boston was an active participant in the deadline. The Celtics added Evan Fournier for two second-round picks.

Upgrade that package just a little, and they probably could’ve added Oubre Jr.

Fournier is set to make around $3 million more, and they’re both on expiring contracts. Given the contracts that Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Kemba Walker have, both Fournier and Oubre Jr. would likely leave Boston after the year ends.

That said, Fournier is a much better scorer. He’s more efficient and averaging about four more points per game. However, Oubre Jr. and Marcus Smart in your backcourt would be a lethal defensive duo, one that could do something to tame Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

Boston will have a shot in the East, but slowing down Brooklyn will be the conference’s main goal. They don’t get closer to doing that with Fournier. Oubre Jr.’s defensive prowess and athleticism would’ve been worth the upgrade.

It would be interesting to know if Boston was a team calling about the young shooting guard.
