A team willing to spend to contend

Stephen Curry could head to Los Angeles for what could be a better chance to contend. Or, he could stay in Golden State and force their hand because this team has shown time and time again that they’re willing to step to contend.

Just this offseason, the Dubs brought in shooting guard Kelly Oubre Jr. Oubre Jr.’s luxury tax hit will be almost four times his actual salary. The trade bringing in Oubre Jr. happened after Klay Thompson’s season-ending ACL injury.

Joe Lacob and company didn’t have to do that.

They could’ve waited a season and watched Thompson rehab. No, they added an expiring contract and gave Curry a high-ceiling player to work with. Oubre Jr. hasn’t worked out perfectly, but he has impacted the team.

On top of Oubre Jr., the Warriors gave Draymond Green and Klay Thompson max-value deals during 2019 offseason in an attempt to make the roster something Curry can contend with.

The bottom line is that this team is willing to spend, and their desire to contend is something that Curry should appreciate enough to stay with them throughout his career.
