Golden State Warriors targets: Ben McLemore
Ben McLemore can be a good addition to a championship-caliber team. Ben McLemore is not a good addition to a lottery-bound team.
At this point, anyone who was high on McLemore entering the 2013 NBA Draft has to accept their L. The high-flying, 3-point shooting wing is never going to be a franchise cornerstone. But, he can help the Golden State Warriors in their pursuit of the playoffs.
As I said, McLemore can be a solid rotational piece. His athleticism and spacing make him an easy fit on most modern teams. He’s never fulfilled his potential as a two-way threat but his defense is strong enough to keep him on the floor.
McLemore is averaging 7.4 points and 2.1 rebounds on an underwhelming 35.1 percent shooting clip from the field this season. However, last season, in a more focused role, he posted 10.1 points on 40 percent 3-point shooting. I think he can match this productivity for the Warriors.
The Houston Rockets are releasing McLemore because well… they have no need for him. In contrast, the Warriors would love to bring a versatile guard to the squad and round out their lineup. Signing McLemore is about as safe of a move they can make when it comes to adding lost talent.
